Yachtmaster Preparation Course Content - (YOP)

To refresh the skills and techniques required to skipper safely on significant offshore passages by day and night including passage planning, preparation for sea, pilotage, navigation, general seamanship incl. yacht handling under sail and power, adverse weather and emergencies.

 

PRE-COURSE EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR RYA/MCA EXAMINATION 

Yachtmaster Coastal - 30 days seatime, 2 days as skipper, 800 miles, 12 night hours

**If you hold a Coastal Skipper Practical Course Completion Certificate the seatime requirement is reduced to 20 days (2 days as skipper), 400 milesand 12 night hours.

The Yachtmaster Coastal Examination Fee is currently £177 scheduled for course completion. 

 

Yachtmaster Offshore - 50 days seatime, 5 days as Skipper, 2,500 miles, 5 Qualifying Passages over 60 miles including 2 overnight and 2 as skipper.

The Yachtmaster Offshore Examination Fee is currently £205 scheduled for course completion.

 

Definition of Qualifying Passage (See Definition of qualifying passage valid for Offshore/Ocean only)

Yachtmaster Coastal & Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased Theory knowledge essential plus VHF Radio Operating License & Valid First Aid Certificates to take the Yachtmaster practical examination.

 

ABILITY AFTER THE COURSE

Confidently skipper coastal or offshore passages by day or night and have experience to manage adverse weather conditions. Upon passing the examination you become a Yachtmaster and you become entitled to various special benefits.

 

Becoming a Yachtmaster is the highest internationally recognised qualification demonstrating competence and ability. There are three levels: Coastal, Offshore and Ocean. Yachtmaster is essential if you want to undertake paid Yacht deliveries operating commercially. It is also beneficial as evidence of competence, valuable for insurance purposes. It will meet the requirements for Charter Companies internationally to show you are competent to undertake bareboat Skipper Charter throughout the world.
