Yacht Training
Yacht Training Specialist, Firth of Clyde, Scotland's West Coast

This is the minimum level recognised qualification required to Skipper a sailing cruiser overseas. The Interntional Certificate of Competance (ICC) for short can be taken by direct assessment. This can by either on your own vessel or our yacht which ever option is preferred. This offers a practical opportunity to skipper a vessel whilst under assessment.
You need to be familiar with both theory and practical. We have a written test to go through to assess your knowledge of safety, buoyage, rules of the road and signals including lights, sound and shapes.
Having completed a review of the RYA supporting text for which we recommend 'International Certificate of Comptenace & Regulations'.
Having satisfactory passed the written test, 'Well Done' and then into the practical.
This requires you to take the boat off the pontoon and perform marina manouvers followed by stopping at a buoy and sailing a short trainangular course before returning alongside. The full syllabus detailing all elements is shown on the attached form.
Once the practical test is completed then this form can be signed off. Then you will be issued with an ICC valid for five years.
PRE-COURSE EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
A Start Yachting/Competent Crew Course would be useful. If you have chartered previously or had flotilla experience then this too would be relevant. Knowledge of Navigational theory could be gained from Essential Navigation & Theory online or classroom course though this is not essential.
